Flamenco Evening

It was 1998 when Kostka Garcia was looking for a flamenco guitar teacher and came across Cuffy, a Glaswegian guitar virtuoso who settled in Bristol in the 90’s, since then the two have hosted flamenco evenings in The Woolpack, Lansdown Hall ( Formally known as The Space) as well as in the Golden Fleece and the Crown & Sceptre, inviting dancers and other aficionados to join them in their performances, they also have performed extensively in the South West and the Midlands and in the last few years they have been joined by Aneta Skut, polish flamenco dancer who honed her dancing skills in Andalucia, Berlin and London and sets whichever venue she dances in on fire....

Since last year the flamenco evenings in Stroud have been reinstated at The Prince Albert by Lotte and Miles, proving to be extremely popular, and it returns this Sat 31st January!

Foghorn String Band

TICKETS

Foghorn Stringband is the present-day gold standard for real-deal hard-hitting genuine old-time American string band music, with nine albums, thousands of shows, more than 15 years of touring under their belts, and an entirely new generation of roots musicians following their lead.

Old time dance tunes rub shoulders with Cajun waltzes, vintage honky-tonk country, and classic bluegrass….and it’s all rendered into a cohesive whole. Foghorn Stringband can often be found after a performance in a local pub or club continuing to play with equal energy and joy late into the night. They’re obsessed, and that obsession rings true with every note they play and every song they sing.

In performance, Foghorn Stringband gathers around one microphone, balancing their music on the fly, and playing with an intense, fiery abandon. To the band, this music is as relevant today as it was at its birth a century ago.

The Often Herd

Bluegrass band The Often Herd transcend the traditional boundaries of the genre. Although they might resemble an American string band, complete with driving energy, tight vocal harmonies and dazzling instrumental interplay, their vibrant, transatlantic sound is deeply coloured by their surroundings; the striking natural and industrial landscapes of Northern England.

Pat Bollard

Pat Bollard are a folk band with stories to tell and a twinkle in their eye. Once a ragtag busking act, they’ve evolved into a full-blown musical force—armed with fiddles, harmonies, and the occasional questionable joke. Their songs wander between laughter, heartbreak, and pint-raising singalongs, all delivered with a warmth that makes every gig feel like a fireside session with old friends. Expect heartfelt lyrics, catchy choruses, and a healthy disregard for taking themselves too seriously. Pat Bollard: proper folk, slightly mischievous, and guaranteed to leave you humming on your way home.

PictureFrames, Louis O'Hara, DELIFINGER

Pictureframes
Moving between melodic, folk-inflected pop songs and minimal arrangements, Pictureframes conjure the changing rhythms of the natural world, channelling the likes of kevin Ayers, The Cleaners From Venus and Neil Young alongside the quieter moments of Yo La Tengo and The Velvet Underground. Their self released debut EP 'Event On The Downs’ has been championed by BBC6 musics Gideon Coe and the band have recently performed alongside Daisy Rickman, Brown Horse and Dana Gavanski. Their second EP is set for release in spring 2026. Pictureframes consist of James Bonney (who also plays with improvised kraut/folk trio Double Pelican and songwriter Eva May) Molly Linen (whose solo output is released via Lost Map records) Dan Weltman (of indie pop project Snails), Caio Wheelhouse and Nick Bradford.

Louis O'Hara
Louis O'Hara is a singer-songwriter from Pembroke Dock, whose music finds beauty in the soft details of everyday life. Blending tender folk sensibilities with poetic lyricism and chamber-pop flourishes, his songs draw from memory, family, place and quiet emotional truths.
'A Peaceful Kind of Fun' (Libertino) is a 14-track collection that distils O’Hara’s poetic lyricism, tender folk roots, and subtle chamber-pop flourishes into a deeply personal yet quietly universal debut. Recorded with his band His Burley Chassis and produced by James Trevascus (Billy Nomates, Young Fathers, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis) in Spain.

Delifinger
Formerly of Bristol's pop-experimentalists OLO Worms (Fence Records), and current member of local collective The Burway, Stroud-based singer-songwriter Matthew Lacey cuts loose as Delifinger (Lost Map Records). Expect wonky pop folk and off kilter love songs.

The Undercover Hippy

The Undercover Hippy

Billy Rowan AKA The Undercover Hippy returns to the Albert as the world hurtles ever deeper into its final post truth, ai-generated death spiral…

As the social feeds upon which we suckle become clagged with the sour taste of AI slop… As the digital realm turns cannibal and eats itself to death… perhaps it’s time for a bit of real life?

TICKETS

This April, The Undercover Hippy will embark upon their UK “Real Life Tour”, slogging their actual physical bodies and instruments around the country in a van and pouring their hearts and souls out to other actual physical human beings around the country. So sack off your digital identity, if just for one night, and come and get sweaty with one of the most delicious crowds you will ever encounter.

If you’ve not been to an Undercover Hippy gig before, you are in for a treat. By the encore you will be exalted and exhausted; entertained and educated; energised and inspired. The music combines meaningful lyrics with upbeat, bass soaked, reggae and hip-hop infused rhythms, bringing like minded people together to both acknowledge the darkness and celebrate life.

But don’t take our word for it:

Live Review - “I don’t think there’s anything quite like The Undercover Hippy... It’s truly unique, fun, and powerful, with darkly satirical lyrics in equal amounts set to a reggae beat that’s simply infectious… this has been one of the THE most enjoyable shows I’ve been to in years” - https://www.leftlion.co.uk/read/2023/april/gig-review-the-undercover-hippy-at-the-bodega

FIRESIDE BOOKSHOP PRESENTS: EMMA TRICCA, Pete Greenwood

FIRESIDE BOOKSHOP PRESENTS: EMMA TRICCA, Pete Greenwood

A co-headline show presented by Stroud's independent book store Fireside Bookshop...

Emma Tricca:
Championed by John Renbourn and Odetta at the start of her career, and subsequently encouraged by Jane Weaver and Andy Votel who would release her first two records (Minor White and Relic) songwriter/guitarist Emma Tricca's unique style has often been compared to a meld of Greenwich Village icons Nico and Patti Smith.

For her most recent collection Aspirin Sun, Emma teamed up again with Jason Victor (The Dream Syndicate) and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) to conjure an alluringly psychedelic sound redolent of 70’s folk-rock yet totally distinctive.

She’s toured extensively with Jane Weaver, Nick Mason (Saucerful of Secrets band), and Robyn Hitchcock, and notably collaborated with Judy Collins, Bridget St John, Jesse Chandler (Mercury Rev, Midlake) among others. BBC6 presenters Guy Garvey and Gideon Coe have been loyal supporters alongside USA stations - WFMU and WFUV - and print media such as Mojo, Uncut, Record Collector, Shindig, The Guardian, and The Times.

Pete Greenwood:
Pete Greenwood gained his reputation as a guitarist during his university studies, and an extensive period of gigging in South London. The hours put in and the experience gained landed him tours in The UK, Europe and North America as an in-demand session guitarist.

Upon returning to London after a trip to Japan/US with Mojave 3, he found himself with a record contract and an album’s worth of original solo material. 2008 saw the release of his debut album “Sirens”. Met with critical acclaim, he then juggled projects with The Loose Salute, The See See, and session work for Starsailor, with tours alongside The Magic numbers, Goldfrapp, The Raconteurs and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name a few.

Again, the second album “Beauceron” was written in a similar vein and released after his return to Yorkshire and a break from touring in 2015. Pete followed this with “Radio Slow”, recorded with The Dark Stars in a flurry of pre-covid activity and released in 2020.

Prodigal, Chasing Dolls, Pebble Daisy

With a sound that feels both vast and intimate, Prodigal emerge as a rising, Nu-hardcore force in the scene, fusing ethereal textures with unfiltered emotional grit. Their music floats on spiritual atmospheres, then crashes into raw, anthemic crescendos that speak to heartbreak, hope, the state of the world, and everything in between. At its core, this is music that breathes: hauntingly beautiful, yet unapologetically human.

With support from Chasing Dolls - Growing up in towns local to each other in the South-West, Chasing Dolls were raised by sweaty grassroot gigs, the skatepark and parties in the middle of nowhere. Taking the rollercoaster dynamic of the Midwest-Emo sound rooted across the pond in the US and giving it a gritty British twist; their own emo-inspired sound.

And Pebble Daisy - with her distinctive blend of vintage 90's indie rock, dream pop, shoegaze Pebble Daisy is the modern angst of heartbreak. Roots from the southwest of England and emerging from a strong feminist background as reflected in her songs like GOOD TIME GRRRL
