Songwriter's Stage @ The Albert
Songwriter's Stage at The Prince Albert, Stroud is an event designed to let songwriters showcase their skills in a relaxed, supportive and inclusive environment.
It’s an opportunity to share your own compositions and hear what other people are creating, it could even be a work in progress! It doesn’t matter if you’ve performed a thousand shows or if you’ve never played in front of anyone before, we’ll do our best to make it a welcoming and supportive space to express yourself.
Everyone is welcome but head of programming we is particularly keen to encourage those who are under-represented in the music scene to come along and feel confident in performing. We feel that women, non-binary people, people with disabilities and young people among others are often under-represented and we’d love to encourage you to come and join us. We'd also love to know what barriers you feel exist, that might make it more difficult to perform your music. To comply with licensing requirements any person under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The evening will be hosted by Ben of Ben Brockett Music Production, Fireside Bookshop, Music Nest and Stroud alt-indie band Lo-Hi-Lo. Ben has years of experience in running community music events so please feel free to drop him a line if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to support you in playing your music.
All songs must be original compositions but other than that anything goes! We’ll have a couple of vocal mics available and the ability to plug in a couple of guitars or a keyboard/piano etc. There’ll be an acoustic guitar available to use if needed but feel free to bring your own. If you’re planning on bringing anything unusual instrument wise or have a setup that is beyond just vocals and an acoustic guitar please let Ben know as soon as you can on the night or ideally via email before so we can prepare and make sure we can keep the evening running smoothly. We’re not setup for full band performances or anything like that at the moment but a cajon and a bass for example would be fine.
Performance slots are for two songs, max ten minutes, if we have time once we’ve been through everyone, we might get chance for people to do another!
