Cricket-loving street punks Geoffrey Oi!Cott next month bring their first-class counties tour to Gloucestershire.

The Leeds-based four piece is playing the Prince Albert in Stroud on June 14. They are supported by local rabble-rousers Chinese Burn.

Singer Jason Kilvington said: “We’ve been touring since 2006 but have never played in Gloucestershire before. Our gigs are fun and welcoming, so we’ll fit right in at the Prince Albert. We’ve heard good things about the pub so are looking forward to making our county debut there.”

The band, whose albums include 2024’s wonderfully-titled ‘Motorheadingley’ are touring a soon-to-be-released compilation of new sessions and singles.

“The myth goes we were formed out of the Ashes of our local Boys’ Brigade brass band and were inspired by our love of Yorkshire, cricket, darts and beer,” said Jason. “I couldn’t possibly comment.”

Politics, as well as cricket, are at the heart of the band, with Jason on stage brandishing a Woody Guthrie-themed cricket bat bearing the words ‘This machine kills fascists’.

Jason said: “With the UK on the cusp of electing a far-right government, we’re doing our bit to articulate the views of most English people who find their views shouted down by the social media megaphone.

“England’s strength is its diversity, built over centuries of welcoming refugees to our shores. The real enemy are not those who arrive in small boats but those who are selling our future to the highest bidder and buying large boats with the profits.”
