We Are Muffy make small, peculiar music. The duo is the happy alliance of Nick Duffy (of The Lilac Time) and Angeline Morrison (of Rowan : Morrison). Whilst working on Nick’s album of unorthodox cover versions in a garden studio in their adopted homeland of Cornwall, they discovered they shared a real homeland in Birmingham. Much chatter ensued, and the sharing of memories of their childhoods and teen years in this unique city became their first album as We Are Muffy, The Charcoal Pool (Tapete Records, 2018). Tales of a Birmingham childhood weave themselves through all the songs, in a soundscape characterised by vocal harmonies and unusual musical instruments (autoharp, banjo, fiddle, music box, cutlery). Catch them if you can, they are quite shy.
The Leaking Machine are Pete Geoghegan (vocals and guitar), Russell Burton (bass and vocals) and Spencer Roberts (drums). The band were originally called Rockingham and they put out an album called The Leaking Machine but subsequently took the name of that LP to trade under.
Collectively and idividually they have played with the likes of Mighty Mighty, Elizabeth Jane, Rumblefish, The Blue Aeroplanes, Stella Martyr, Gerry Colvin, The Winnebago Orchestra and many more.
The Leaking Machine occupy that space between Richard Thompson and Husker Du….ZZ Top and Nick Drake….The Leaking Machine look forward to meeting you there someday soon.
